Don passed away peacefully at the CSSS Memphremagog, in Magog, Quebec. He was the beloved husband of Sheila Cornell for almost 63 years and the proud Dad to Alex ( Gail ), Scott ( Helen ) , Derek, and Neil ( the late Maureen ). He was predeceased by his parents Colina (Dot ) and Robert ( Bert ) Robertson, as well as his sister, Betty Gorman. Don watched with pride and admiration, his grandchildren Ryan, Alexandra, Dylan, Alexander and Steven, as they grew into successful adults. He also followed with interest the lives of his nieces and nephews and always looked forward to the family gatherings.
Don had a great 35 year career in education, which brought him both joy and challenges. His love of sports allowed him to both coach and referee many of them. He was the president of the Quebec Association of School Administrators and Summerlea Golf and Country Club, negotiated contracts with the Quebec government, as well as served on many boards of directors in community organizations. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed curling and loved to organize golf games and tournaments with his friends.
Don will be remembered for his love of people, his honesty, integrity and leadership skills. His sense of humor and ready smile will remain with us always.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held, when permitted, at a later date. Any donations to the Magog Hospital Foundation, 50 rue St. Patrice, Est, Magog, Quebec, J1X 3X3 will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
